Oversized ad on the top that takes a long time to load.

First article is some sponsored BS about a hammock.

Then we got Traffic Jams, which I guess is technically content but the songs are never my style and it’s not really about cars.

Then a freaking section about other crap from Kinja that is the biggest click bait of all time and I really do not care about it.

Finally there’s a car! Yay.

Scroll down a bit and there’s another sponsored post for Raspberry PI.

I’m not anti-ad and I understand money must be generated somewhere, especially since we are reading this site for free. But having to scroll down past 4 posts (especially on mobile) in order to get to some real posts is annoying. And it seems like car content in general has been floundering and many posts are now Tavarish talking about his cars and Steve Lehto giving us legal advice. Those posts are great, but... significant drop in quality and quantity of car stuff, I’ve noticed. With beloved AOTD gone I find myself visiting Oppo more frequently than FP Jalopnik.

I use it on my desktop but that’s not the point I’m trying to make. No form of ad block will generate more, and better, car content.

The amount of content that’s click worthy on the FP has been dropping, and that’s a sad thing imho. I’m talking about a rather long term trend, not something recent. It’s not just the ads, it’s the horrid buy guides, the utterly off topic cross posts and the general lack of ‘the culture of cars’ posts. The latter is what this site is/was all about, so why are there 3 Foxtrot Alpha post on the FP alone?

On mobile Kinja is hard to use as well. On an older phone the ads and general inefficient design require too much, slowing load times dramatically to ultimately crashing the page. Especially when reading many comments. It’s so bad I tend to simply not visit the site on mobile.

Well, I strongly believe an Oppo take over of the Jalopnik FP would be awesome and actually beneficial to Jalopnik... But it’s not easy getting them to publish what we do... I have to say I too am a little desappointed with waht Jalopnik is becoming and the type of article that is being published, but hey, not my gig, so I can’t really complain. I;m very happy they publish my stuff once in a while, could only wish they’d do it more often (considering that it’s free content that I would consider as “decent” I see no reason for them not to, but well...) and that more Opponaut articles were to get on the FP... Luckily Oppositeblog is here for us when we miss the great stuff that Oppo can produce!! :)

Opposite blog is a great example. The content there is so much more interesting. But hey, it’s free, who am I to complain? All we can do is try to contribute. I’m currently working on an article about the carbagerun rally I participated in.
